If you are a test automation engineer, then definitely you knew about HP tools. HP UFT (Unified Functional Testing), formerly known as HP Quick Test Professional is the industry standard test automation solution. Recently HP announced a new powerful tool called HP LeanFT (please note that there is no space between Lean and FT) in HP Discover event. HP LeanFT is the brand new test automation solution from HP which enables you to code functional automation tests in C#/Java inside your IDE (Integrated Development Environment). The acronym for FT is Functional Testing. Those tests can be run as a part of Continuous Integration/DevOps.

In today’s market, it is vital to deliver the product faster without satisfying the quality. It is important to develop the products in agile model. Continuous integration and Continuous testing are the key components in agile. HP LeanFT helps developers/testers to expedite the continuous testing and delivery.

Intended Audience

HP LeanFT perfectly fits for test automation engineers, continuous testing team, Agile, and DevOps teams. On the other side: HP UFT is for test automation engineers, QA analysts, SMEs, and business analysts.

HP LeanFT adopts HP UFT concepts such as Test Objects, Object Identification mechanisms etc. It supports standard Windows objects, .NET Windows Forms, WPF, Mobile objects, SiebelUI, Insight Image Recognition where HP UFT supports 20+ test platforms.

HP LeanFT allows you to develop tests in Visual Studio (using C#), Eclipse (using Java), Open Source TDD and BDD Framework Integration, Source/Version Control tools, Development environment such as Subversion, TFS, Git, and also can be configured as part of Jenkin builds, API/Web Services Testing, and BPT. It supports Record and Playback, and Insight Image Recognition.

It integrates with other HP products such as HP ALM, HP QC, and HP Mobile Center.

Cost of HP LeanFT

You need to contact HP for the exact cost. But if you upgrade to HP UFT 12.5, then HP LeanFT will be available for FREE.

Release Date

HP LeanFT will be available in July 2015. There will be major upgrades in HP UFT and HP Business Process Testing.

Great introduction to LeanFT! For a further glimpse, real users wrote reviews of the beta version on my site IT Central Station–they say the ability to use the same language as developers is extremely helpful, and that “developers can now perform automation using familiar tools, programming language, and IDE.” This user also mentions the incredible scalability of the product:

Hi Srinivas, HP LeanFT resides within HP UFT. LeanFT enables you to create scripts using developer’s IDE or the languages.

1. May i know LeanFT is a open source or commercial tool
2. Where can i get all jar files for to implement a project.
3. Which eclips IDE it supports(Luna or mars)
4. How could i map Eclips IDE and LeanFT
