Object Identification Process Workflow in QTP

In this blog post, I have posted an important flowchart which explains Object Identification Process Workflow of HP QTP. Every QTP automation engineer needs to aware how QTP identifies objects during run-time. Below is the workflow of the object identification process.

To identify an object successfully, QTP utilizes maximum of four stages.

1. Description Properties

2. Visual Relation Identifiers

3. Smart Identification

4. Ordinal Identifiers

First QTP tries to identify objects using descriptive properties, if it several/one matches are/is found, then it tries to match objects using a Visual Relation Identifier.

If one match is found using a Visual Relation Identifier, then the object is identified. If several/none match found, QTP tries to identify objects using Smart Identification.

If a match is found using Smart Identification, then the object is identified. If several/none match found, QTP tries to identify objects using Oridinal Identifier.

If one match is found, then the object identifies, else object identification is valid.
