I hope you would have read my earlier posts on HP LoadRunner 12 and HP UFT release. Currently, I am in the process of testing HP LoadRunner 12 on my personal laptop. Last week I spent around 50+ minutes to install HP LoadRunner 12 in my system. You can check out my below video on how to install HP LoadRunner 12 on your system.
My laptop has six GB RAM, so it is more enough to install HP products. In this article, I have listed out the tools of HP LoadRunner 12 and its purpose. Below is the snapshot of the HP LoadRunner software package in the Start menu.
1. LoadRunner Agent Runtime Settings
This tool enables testers to run virtual users on a Load Generator (LG) machine without manually logging into the machine. If you want to manually login to the machine, you can select Manual log in to this machine option as shown below.
Once you have entered a valid username and password, click on OK, you will get below success message.
2. Configure Virtual Table Server Link
When you launch Virtual Table Server, you will get below window where you need to specify the Server Name and Port.
Once you have entered the valid server name and port, navigate to Start > All Programs > HP Software > HP LoadRunner > Tools, and then click on the Virtual Table Server link.
3. Diagnostics for J2EE and .NET Setup
This utility helps to setup the diagnostics for J2EE and .NET setup.
To setup diagnostics, you must start application server and make sure that you are not running any load test. To configure the settings, go to Controller > Diagnostics, select Enable the following diagnostics, and then specify the percentage of Vusers that you want to collect the diagnostics data. See the figure below.
4. Host Security Manager
When you launch Host Security Manager, it will prompt you to set up the master security key as shown below.
This setting will secure the connection between the Controller and Load Generators to make sure that the communication is safe, reliable and not vulnerable to hackers. Security key plays an important role, if there is a mismatch in the security key, and then the secure communication will not be established.
Launch Host Security Manager, click on Add Hosts. Enter the Controller name and the LG names as shown below, and then click on Add.
5. Host Security Setup
This utility helps you to setup the host security. If you want to allow non-secure communication, select accordingly as shown below. If you want to enforce secure communication, enter your security key and then click on OK.
6. IP Wizard
IP Wizard helps you to manage your system’s IP addresses. Once you launch it, you will get below window. Select Create New Settings, and then click on Next.
 Enter IPv4/v6 details, IP Wizard will automatically check if the server’s routing table will need updating. If yes, scripts will be generated. Then, click on the Next button.
In the last step, IP Wizard will display the IP address and its subnet mask details as shown below. Click on Finish.
7. Load Generator Calculator
Load Generator Calculator helps you to calculate how many LG you need for your script. This is just a technical preview. I have found few defects as well. You can send your feedback to [email protected]
8. Network and Security Manager
This is also a technical preview; you may face issues while using this tool. It helps you configure the settings on your local and remote machine from your computer. You can update agent related settings as well.
9. Password Encoder
Many of us know about this utility where it encodes your password. Encoded password can be used in the Vuser script to hide your credentials. Enter your password in the Password: field and then click on Generate. Your password will be converted into an Encoded String as shown below.
10. Protocol Advisor
This is the most used feature in LoadRunner, which identifies the protocol of your application under test. Go to Record > Protocol Advisor > Analyze Application in VuGen as shown below.
 You will get below Protocol Advisor options as shown below. Enter URL address and then click on Start Analyzing button to analyze the application. Perform few actions and then click on the Stop button. LoadRunner will analyze and display the results accordingly.
11. SSL Utility
SSL utility helps you to convert you to convert your SSL certificate, test the connection, and remove certificate encryption.
